Careers Week: Our Visit to Tesco

A group of learners from ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½Å®ÓÅ School and Hedley’s College were lucky enough to have an exclusive tour of Tesco Kingston Park this Careers Week.

Rachel, who is responsible for overseeing all Tesco stores in the North East, took the time to show our students the variety of roles available in Tesco and what it would be like to work there.

The visit began with seeing what goes on behind the scenes, including deliveries, picking and packing and the bakery.

The students asked some brilliant questions, finding out how many people are responsible for specific duties, what the hours are and when employees get breaks.

Then it was time to have a go on the tills, scanning items and acting out how they would communicate with customers doing their shopping.

Some of our students decided they would prefer to work the night shift, and some thought they would be enjoy a quality control position to make sure everything is kept in order.

It was an insightful visit and helped our students to start thinking about what they would like to do in the future and the wide variety of positions available to suit different skills and interests.

Thank you to Rachel and the Tesco Kingston Park team for such a brilliant visit.

If your business or organisation is interested in providing a similar opportunity for our students, please get in touch with Kerry Robinson, Project Manager of Hedley’s Beyond Employability at [email protected] or click below for more information.
